Search engine submission is the act of submiitting your websites to search engines. In todays world of advanced technology it is often not necessary to submit your website to search engines. Simply submitting your website to search engines does not guarantee you a higher search engine results.

Search engines, such as Google, AOL, Yahoo, Bing are so advanced today that their spiders or bots will find and index your website into their database. Search engines use crawlers aka web crawlers to find websites.

There are two main reasons why you might want to submit your website to search engines - first, if your website is relatively new, you might want to do a manual submision to search engines by visiting their website and filing out a submission request. Secondly, so your web pages can be updated if you have new information.

In general, the best way to make sure that your website is crawled frequently is to build links to them, The more links poinyting to your web pages, the higher the chances of the contents of your web pages getting crawled. Search engine submission is no longer necessary. DON'T BE FOOLED by webmasters promising to submit your website to thousands of search engines. There is no such thing as 1000 or 5000 websites. The major search engines are Google, Yahoo, AOL, Bing, Ask, Alta Vista.

Directory submission requires manual submission. If you will like to get your website listed in directories, you will have to do a manual listing. Google directory is a great way to get more traffic to your website. Adding your website to a Google directory needs some verification process. There are also some free and paid directories that you can also add your site to.
